CHAPTER 10

We said goodnight, and Hunter, being the amazing man he is, picked me up and carried me home. I hadn’t been living in his house for long, but it already felt like home to me. A large part of that was because Hunter treated me like a partner. I didn’t feel inferior to him. And he insisted we redecorate, so the place suited both of us together.

I opened the front door, and he kicked it closed before striding down the hall. Hunter put me down when we made it to the bedroom. Reaching out, he touched my side as I pulled the shirt over my head. “I worry about you, Eve. I don’t know how not to.”

I smiled up at him, running a hand over his chest. “I love that you care so much, but I’m not helpless, you know.”

His gaze softened, but there was still that intense look of concern in his eyes. “I never said you were. It’s just... hard not being there to protect you every second.”

I started unbuttoning my pants, pushing them down my hips. “I’m much harder to kill these days, remember? Between you, Nishi, and Faith training me, I’m a badass warrior now. Plus, I’ve got my magic.” I turned and gave him a playful little wiggle, showing off my backside.

Hunter’s eyes glued themselves to my ass. And for a second, he looked like he’d completely lost track of what we were talking about. “Gods, Eve, you make it impossible to concentrate.”

I grinned, wrapping my arms around his neck and pulling him closer. “So, don’t. I can think of something we enjoy more.”

A slow smile spread across his face, and it was that kind of smile that made me feel like the only woman in the world. It wasn’t just his words, though they always hit the right spot—it was everything about him. The way he looked at me. The way he touched me as if I was something precious. It all made me go gooey inside.

“I like the way you think.” His shirt disappeared in an instant. His boots were flung across the room with the kind of urgency that made my heart race.

I groaned when I felt something hard pressing against my stomach. I didn’t even have to look down to know what it was. Hunter had a significant bulge in his jeans, and standing there in nothing but my panties made it even more delicious. He didn’t waste time. He fused his lips to mine and successfully distracted me from everything else. All thoughts about Perius, the hand, and the pack flew out of my head.

One of his hands slid between my legs, while the other trailed up my torso, latching onto a breast. The way he tweaked and pulled at my nipple made me mewl against his mouth. My back arched, and I shuddered as his touch sent waves of pleasure through me. His fingers tangled in the fabric of my panties. With one sharp tug, the cotton tore away, leaving me completely bare.
